Online Prepayments:  Online Prepayments: You may prepay in person by cash or check at your student’s school. You may also pay via debit card, credit card, or electronic check using our online pre-payment system, MySchoolBucks.

Note: When paying online, it may take up to 24 hours for the money to appear in the student’s account at the campus level.

Student Meal Charging Policy:
In the event that a student loses their money or runs out of money on their account, we will allow elementary and secondary students to charge up to $13.75. Charges will be taken out of any future payments and unpaid charges will carry over each year. Student Nutrition is extending this credit with the full intent that all charges will be paid. Once a student reaches the limit, no more charging will be allowed and students without money will be given a complimentary vegetable plate consisting of three fruit/vegetable servings and milk. It is our goal for no child to go without a meal; however, we cannot feed children indefinitely without money.

Remaining Balances:
Any balance remaining on students account will be available for use the following year and balances will transfer with the student if they change schools. If a student moves out of the district or at the end of the year any money remaining on a students account can be refunded. Parents should complete a refund form available from the cafeteria manager. This request will be processed and a check for the remaining balance will be mailed to the requestor. This may take up to 10 business days.

Purchases/Transaction History:
If a parent wishes to have a detailed report of their student’s purchases and transaction history, this may be obtained on our online pre-payment system, www.myschoolbucks.com. Parents will need to register for an account to view these reports but do not have to use the site to make payments if they do not wish to do so. Once an account has been set up, parents should add their students to their account using the student’s ID number, school, and name. Account balances and cafeteria meal history will both be available under the Meal Accounts tab.

Restricting an Account:
If a parent wishes to restrict the purchase of a la carte items, they can request that the debit account be used for only meals, and this should be communicated to the Student Nutrition Office by completing the Limit Account Request under the Online Forms section.

All students use their unique district student I. D. as a "pin number". This "pin number" allow students to access their individual account. When the student inputs their number the computer system accesses his/her account and determines the amount due depending on the money that has been pre-deposited on account or the child's meal benefit status. It is used each day in the cafeteria and for payments on lunch accounts. To help the serving lines move faster and allow more time for students to eat, children should memorize their PIN number. Please practice your children's PIN numbers with them at home.

All USDA/TDA nutrition programs are based on nutrient standards. The nutrient-based planning process used in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD organizes foods into three groups - entrees, sides and milk. All menus offered in the cafeteria are planned by a Registered Dietitian and meet the nutritional guidelines set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture and the Texas Department of Agriculture. Parents can be assured that students consuming the full meal each day will receive one-fourth of the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA's) at breakfast and one-third of the RDA's at lunch. Here is how it works:

School Breakfast: Breakfast offerings consist of a choice of breakfast entrée, a serving of juice, a serving of fruit and a choice of milk. Students may choose all four items or as few as the entrée and a juice/fruit serving OR a juice serving, a fruit serving and milk to receive meal benefits or pay the student price. Additional items or two of any one item will be considered a la carte and priced accordingly.

Elementary Lunch: At lunch elementary students may select one of the entrees, two of the vegetable side dishes, a fruit side dish and milk. Elementary students must select an entrée and at least one other fruit/vegetable serving, OR two serving of vegetables, a fruit serving and milk serving to receive meal benefits or pay the student price.

Secondary Lunch: At lunch secondary students may select one of the entrees, two of the vegetable side dishes, two fruit side dish and milk. Secondary students must select an entrée and at least one other fruit/vegetable serving, OR two servings of vegetables, two fruit servings and milk serving to receive meal benefits or pay the student price.

How am I notified about my child's low lunch balance?
In an effort for every child to have the meal of their choice, the Child Nutrition department utilizes a phone/email system to contact households that have a student with an account balance below $ -1.00. These calls are made every Sunday night.

My child seems to run out of money in their lunch account sooner than I expect, why are they charged more for a la carte items than if they get the standard hot meal?
We receive federal funding for the school lunch program, and to ensure that children select healthy meals, the Federal Government requires that students select foods according to our menu plan. If a child does not select a reimbursable meal the school district does not receive funding for any portion of the meal. In this case, students are charged a la carte prices for items selected. Consequently, they could actually pay more for less food.

Why can't teachers tell my elementary child what to select at lunch?
This again relates to federal guidelines and federal funding. Because we offer a choice of entrees, the student must independently select a reimbursable meal. We can offer, but not serve, so that is why we have to ask faculty not to add additional items to student trays. We cannot make changes that seem like we are forcing students to take full meals to increase our federal funding. In summary, teachers may suggest not tell or force students to take items offered.

What if my child needs a special diet?
Student Nutrition works jointly with the school nurses to provide for students with special medical dietary needs. All requests for special dietary modifications must include a written order and a prescribed diet from the student's doctor or a registered dietitian. Parents can contact the school nurse or the Student Nutrition Department for information on such accommodations.

How can I find out what my student is eating at school?
You may contact your campus cafeteria manager for a Transaction report. It can be sent by email or you may pick it up from the cafeteria.
